ARI Registry Services’ statement on US Government domain name functions announcement18th March 2014
Melbourne, Australia – 18 March 2014: ARI Registry Services acknowledges the announcement by the US National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of its intent to transition key Internet domain name functions to the global multi-stakeholder community.
As the provider of back-end registry services for a number of Top-Level Domain operators and participants of the domain name industry for more than 10 years, the significance of this step by the United States Government cannot be understated.
Paramount to any solution is the continued reliability of service that we have come to expect from the current arrangement.
To that end, it is important that in undertaking the role of convening the directly affected parties that has been entrusted to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), that they include all Top-Level Domain operators moving forward as outlined in the NTIA announcement.
ARI Registry Services has been disappointed by what appears to be the exclusion of generic Top-Level Domain operators from a number of Internet related debates in recent times, and more recently the well-choreographed and timely statement made by self-appointed Internet Technical Leaders about the NTIA announcement.
ARI Registry Services looks forward to engaging in the process that will commence at ICANN’s Singapore meeting next week.
